Don't know how to release already freed Khaleda, says Anisul

'Court will decide on quota based on all sides' statements'

Law Minister Anisul Huq has said he does not know how to release BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia who is already out of prison, reports UNB.
Khaleda Zia has become ill again. When asked about the BNP's demand for her unconditional release, he said, "Look, I don't understand one thing. Khaleda Zia is free; I don't understand how to release this free person again."
The law minister was speaking with reporters at his Secretariat office in the city on Tuesday. The BNP chairperson was convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case and Zia Charitable Trust corruption case. Her sentence has been suspended by an executive order and her release period is extended in every six months.
The former prime minister has been suffering from various physical complications including arthritis, diabetes, kidney, liver, lungs and eye problems for a long time. She has to be taken to the hospital from time to time. Recently, a pacemaker was implanted in her heart. On Monday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir demanded the unconditional release of Khaleda from jail.
Mentioning that anti-quota movement protesters have sought to intervene as a party in the state's appeal, he said, the Appellate Division will decide based on all sides' statements.
Replying to a question regarding the government's stance, he said, " The Prime Minister has been very clear that the issue is now before the Supreme Court now. The Supreme Court will decide listening to all sides, and will give a fair decision," he said. "
Anisul further said on the protesters' petition to be party to the case, saying, "I have heard that they have applied to be a party in the case in the Appellate Division.
