Don't waste time sitting idle: PM
Friday, 2 April 2010
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked government officials not to waste time in formulation and implementation of development projects, reports UNB.
She said that the government failed to achieve its desired level of development during the seven years of the previous BNP-led alliance government followed by the interim caretaker government.
"I want to develop the country at a great pace, I don't have time to waste idly," she said, when the newly elected BCS Economic Cadre Association leaders called on her at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Thursday.
Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad, who was present, briefed reporters after the meeting.
She directed the government officials to complete all procedural tasks related to development project proposals quickly.
The Prime Minister said that her government was working hard to recoup the losses that had been incurred during the BNP-Jamaat alliance government and the caretaker government.
She also said that she was not a Prime Minister of a single area or constituency; rather she was the Prime Minister of the whole country.
"I need balanced development of the country," she said.
She asked the government officials to be more careful and sincere in preparing the development projects.
"I need development to change the fate of the people of this country, nothing else," she said.
Hasina mentioned that the previous BNP-Jamaat alliance government during their tenure from 2001-2006 scrapped many development projects that had been undertaken by her government during the Awami League's previous tenure from 1996-2001. "We have to recoup this loses," she said.
The Prime Minister said that by taking appropriate, timely and necessary steps her government had enable the country to emerge relatively unscathed from the world economic recession and food crisis. "We were successful in running the economy of the country," she said.
She admitted that the country had limitations of resources, but everyone had to work with these limitations, and utilise the limited resources to the optimum.
Hasina asked the government officials to complete the necessary paperwork for all projects by July to August, after announcement of the budget in June, in anticipation of the rainy season in the country. She stressed the importance of proper planning for all the projects.
