A six-day Dosti-WETEX 2009, a trade expo exclusively for women entrepreneurs from Bangladesh and a number of other regional countries, begins tomorrow (Monday).
Organised under the auspices of Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka, the fair is expected to bring a number of women SMEs and products from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan.
Deputy leader of Parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury is expected to inaugurate the event to be held at the Bangabandhu International Convention Center in the city, organisers informed.
"The event is intended to promote women entrepreneurship in Bangladesh," Commercial Counsellor of Pakistan High Commission in Bangladesh Zulfiqar Younas said at a press conference held at the Press Club in the city Saturday, adding, "the timing is excellent as it coincides with the start of Ramadan and the upcoming Eid,"
There might be 125 stalls and pavilions of five countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and China in the fair.
Items to be displayed at the fair include embroidered or plain fabric, garments, saries, fatuas, shoes, chapels, ladies bags, gems and jewelry, carpets, home decors, bed linens, utensils and handicrafts, organisers informed.
"The event provides a unique opportunity for the women SMEs of the region to network with each other as well as to market their products in the most effective manner," Zulfiqar said.
"It also brings latest designs and fashions from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan at the same venue on the eve of the Eid and thus makes Eid shopping a real treat for the families in Dhaka," he added.
A delegation of fourteen women entrepreneurs from Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and a 12-member delegation from Federation of Indian Exporters Organizations from Calcutta are also participating in the fair, organizers said.
