Downpour disrupts city life

Heavy rainfalls due to active monsoon over Bangladesh have caused immense sufferings to the inhabitants of the city as well as many places in Dhaka, Barisal and Chittagong divisions. The downpour has inundated the streets of Dhaka under knee-deep water in many areas disrupting normal life. The city experienced water logging in its different parts including Mirpur, Kazipara, Shewrapara, Kalyanpur, Mohammadpur, Town Hall, Asad Gate, Karwan Bazar, Moghbazar, Malibagh, Mouchak, Shantinagar, Kathalbagan, Green Road, Gulshan, Banani, Motijheel, Nayapaltan, Kakrail, Najirabazar, Bongshal, Armanitola, Chankharpool, Jatrabari, Dhania, Rayerbagh and Sanir Akhara areas. Witnesses said sufferings for working people including commuters, professionals and office-goers have intensified while public transports were very thin on the city streets. Small business owners kept their businesses shut, as they could not go out due to torrential rain. In the capital, as many as 52mm rainwater was recorded since 6am on Saturday to 12noon, a Met Office spokesman has said, according to BSS.
