Downpour drenches Dhaka: More rain likely

Wednesday, 6 August 2014

Rain submerged many parts in Dhaka this (Wednesday) morning, causing immense suffering to the city dwellers. The rain that began early Wednesday inundated many of the city streets while commuters experienced immense suffering due to non-availability of transports. Many areas of the city, including Kakrail, Mouchak and Malibagh, Mirpur, Motijheel, Shanitanagar and Old Dhaka went under knee-deep water due to overnight rain. Many commuters were seen wading through the roads submerged by rainwater. Some city dwellers said many roads go under water even after moderate rainfall due to poor drainage system and lack of renovation work. Many commuters complained that rickshaw and CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers charged them excessive fares, taking advantage of the inclement weather. The Met office recorded 11 millimeters rain in the last 24 hours till 6.00am on Wednesday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur across the country during next 24 hours from this morning, Met office sources said, according to a news agency.
