Dr Ashraf Hossain passes away

Dr Khondakar Ashraf Hossain, poet and vice-chancellor (VC) of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, died at a hospital in the city Sunday. He was 63, reports UNB. Dr Ashraf Hossain, who served as a teacher of Dhaka University's (DU) English department for nearly four decades, had joined Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University as VC on May 6 this year. Born on January 4, 1950 in Jamalpur district, Dr Ashraf Hossain obtained his higher education from the DU and Leeds University, UK. He was honoured with prestigious Alaol Sahitya Puraskar, Jibonananda Puraskar and Little Magazine Prize of Paschimbanga in recognition of his literary works.
