Dr Milon Day today
Sunday, 27 November 2011
Dr Milon Day will be observed across the country today (Sunday), marking the 21st death anniversary of Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon, reports UNB.
On this day in 1990, Dr Milon, the then joint secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), was gunned down by the armed cadres of the erstwhile autocratic regime near TSC of the Dhaka University during the anti-autocratic movement.
Different organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day.
On the occasion, President M Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina and leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia paid rich tributes to the memory of Shaheed Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon.
"Dr Milon is the name of a shining star in the country's democratic movement. The sacrifice made by Milon in 1990 had turned the mass movement into a mass upsurge and paved the path for restoration of democracy," the President said.
