Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has published a draft guideline to obtain licence for setting up and conducting submarine cable, reports BSS.
The guideline is available on BTRC website - www.btrc.gov.bd, and any person or organisation can give opinions on it through email. The final guideline will be published after reviewing the opinions. According to the draft guideline, two new licences would be given for setting up and running submarine cable, and primarily, the licences will be given for 20 years.
The government has taken steps for setting up and conducting alternative submarine cable to keep uninterrupted the country's tele and internet communications with the outside world. BTRC Chairman Maj Gen (retd) Manzurul Alam said, "If the submarine cables are set up, we would be free from the risk of separation from the world at anytime, and internet speed will be increased to a large extent due to raising bandwidth," he added.
As a result, Alam said, internet penetration will be increased significantly, and huge employment scopes will be created in the country due to the expansion of technology-based trade and commerce.
