FE Report | Sunday, 31 May 2015
The government is set to finalise the draft Import Policy Order (2015-18) and Export Policy Order (2015-18) today (Sunday), officials said.
The draft will be finalised at a meeting to be held at a city hotel with Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed in the chair, they added.
Hedayetullah Al Mamoon, senior secretary of the ministry of commerce (MoC), will moderate the meeting.
Besides, representatives from different ministries, business associations, stakeholders and Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) will be present.
"The draft of new IPO and EPO will be finalised today. Later, the final draft will be placed before the cabinet meeting for approval," a high official of the MoC told the FE Saturday.
Earlier, a series of meetings with different stakeholders were held to prepare the draft of the policies. More than a hundred recommendations and proposals put forward by the stakeholders have been taken into consideration, he said.
The policies will have more liberal provisions, the official said, adding that these will help boost the country's overall export and import growth.
The new policies are now in draft level. The MoC is working to finalise the IPO and EPO. Validity of the current IPO (2012-15) and EPO (2012-15) will expire on June 30.
