The government has prepared a draft law on forming the 'Sonadia Deep Sea Port Authroity,' official sources said Tuesday.
The Ministry of Shipping has sent the draft law to different ministries, seeking their respective suggestions. After considering the suggestions, the draft law will go to parliament for approval, which will pave the way to form the authority to expedite the much-talked-about construction work of the deep sea port, high officials of the shipping ministry told the FE Tuesday.
The government has also approved the 'Preliminary Development Project Proposal' (PDPP) for studying the possible sources of fund mobilisation for the port's construction, the officials added.
Besides, the government has received about 23 applications for appointment of consultants for drawing the detailed design of the deep sea port. The eight-member committee, earlier formed by the government, has been scrutinising the applications.
Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Commodore Reazuddin Ahmed is the head of the committee, and former director general of Department of Shipping Captain A K M Safiqullah is the member secretary.
