Draft of abandoned property ordinance approved

The Council of Advisers has in principle approved draft of the Bangladesh Abandoned Property (Control, Management and Disposal) (Amendment) Ordinance-2008, reports UNB.brThe proposed amendment to the existing law is aimed at better management and control of moveable property in case of any court, tribunal or the law commission confiscates such property.brPresided over by Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed, the meeting also approved recommendations for issuing certificate to industrial units set up on private land within the Bhawal National Udyan in Gazipur district.brRegarding the industrial units set up on wholly private land, government restriction can be relaxed as per Bangladesh Wildlife (Conservation) Act-1973 after verifying existing land survey records of ownership of the land.brThere must be own approach road in private land for going to factory and effluent treatment plant (ETP) operational in the factory. Government land can never be used for movement to such factory, it said.brBesides, the meeting nodded to a proposal for signing memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the energy department of the USA and the shipping ministry for setting up radiation detection equipment in Chittagong Port. Such measure would help check smuggling of nuclear and radioactive materials through the port.brAdvisers and CA's special assistants attended the meeting.
