The draft of consumer protection act is likely to be finalised in the next month with provisions of stern measures against the dishonest businessmen.
The inter-ministerial meeting agreed this in principle at a three-hour meeting held at the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) Tuesday.
Commerce Secretary Feroz Ahmed presided over the meeting with officials of different ministries attending.
Representatives of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce of Industry (FBCCI), Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) were also present at the meeting.
"We have agreed in principle on a number of issues raised by the representatives of different organisations. We hope that the next meeting will finalise it," said one senior official at the MoC.
He hinted the next meeting likely will sit in August.
Earlier, the MoC sent consumer protection act of 2006 to the council of advisers for its approval.
