Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Golam M Kader Sunday said the government will acquire 6000 acres of land for construction of Bangabandhu International Airport outside the capital.
Responding to a question at Parliament the minister said, pre-feasibility study committee for the construction of the mega project has submitted a report, suggesting three suitable locations for it.
Two different locations in Trishal Upazila under Mymensingh district (distance from Dhaka - 98 km and 106 km) and Vuapur in Tangail district (about 100km from the capital) were proposed at the report, the minister said.
He said the government has decided to conduct further assessment study on these three locations. A technical assessment of the project proposal in this connection has already been submitted to the planning commission, he said.
Duration of the construction period of the project would be determined after the completion of necessary assessments, he added.
Responding to another question, the minister also said the government, as part of its efforts to upgrade tourism facilities in the country, has already finalised a draft Tourism Policy.
Combining together government efforts and initiatives from private stakeholders, the government has submitted the Tourism Board Bill-2010 before Parliament for approval, he announced.
