Draft voter lists of Dhaka city on display

Monday, 28 July 2008

Draft voter lists of Dhaka city are on display in ward commissioners' and election offices for public view so that voters can correct their names, reports UNB.

Informing this to newsmen Sunday, Election Commissioner Sakhawat Hossain said those who were left out can apply in prescribed form for inclusion in the voter list. Application for correction of names or registration of new voters has to be made within 15 days.

The forms for inclusion of voter and correction of names in the draft voter lists are available with ward commissioners' and election offices.

Inclusion of names in the voter list will be made if the authority found the reasons explained for the left out are rational after personal hearing of the applicants, added the election commissioner.

He said the final list of voters would be published after a month. About the National Identity Card (NID), the EC cleared the misgivings. "The NID is a different thing. There is no relation with the NID and casting of votes," he added.

But without registration in the voter list with photographs, no one would be allowed to cast his or her vote in the elections, he said.

EC sources said the draft voter list of Dhaka city showed the number of voters at around 3.5 million (35 lakh).
