Dramatic win of Singapore

Singapore earned a dramatic 3-2 win over Iran in the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Sunday. Iran took the lead in the 17th minute when forward Taheridad Navid forced his way through the Singapore defence and scored the first goal with an angular hit (1-0). In the 22nd minute, Singapore earned a penalty stroke but Nur Ashik Ferdaus failed to convert it. Iran doubled the lead in the 45 minute when forward Abbasi Reza was unmarked in the box and he unleashed a reverse hit to hit the board (2-0). But Singapore never lost the spirit and continued to attack. In the 55th minute Salim Mohammed Haseef missed another penalty stroke. But in the very next minute Alias Muhammad Ashraf flicked a Nur Ashik Ferdaus hit into the Irani post (2-1). In the 59th minute Saleem Muhammad Haseef equalised with a fierce reverse hit after from the edge of the box (2-2). Singapore’s fighting effort paid off in the last minute when Timothy Goh Kai Young’s powerful hit crashed into the post after a penalty corner was initiated. It would be mentionable that the stipulated time finished before the penalty corner was initiated, according to a news agency.
