Drawing attention of mobile phone companies

Sunday, 8 July 2007

WE all carry our mobile phone(s) [Grameen, City Cell, BanglaLink, Aktel, Teletalk, WARID] with hundreds of names/numbers stored in its memory but yet nobody, other than ourselves, know which of these numbers belong to our near and dear ones?
In case we are involved in an accident or had a heart attack/stroke/epileptic attack or any other unknown medical emergency, or badly hurt by miscreants and the people attending us get hold of our mobile phone easily but don't know which number to call to inform our family members. Yes, there are many numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? For this reason, we must have one or more telephone numbers stored under the name ICE-1, ICE-2, ICE-3, ICE-4 (1-In case of Emergency-Family person, 2-In case of Emergency-Hospital/Clinic/Physician, 3-In case of Emergency-Nearest police station, 4-In case of Emergency-Fire Service / Ambulance etc.) in our mobile phones.
As mobile phones are carried by majority of the population, just store the number of a contact person or person who should be contacted at during emergency as "ICE" (meaning In Case of Emergency).
This idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when they went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call at that juncture.
By this time the aforementioned mobile phone companies are doing booming business in Bangladesh and I do believe that there are lot of experts in IT sector who can develop such programming in the SIM, RIM or software of the mobile set to install such ICE-? Numbers. I have not seen anything at all to help our people with this concept.
I hope this letter will draw special attention of the mobile companies immediately. I would very much appreciate any information regarding this concept that might help my people in near future in Bangladesh.
