Drive against illegal brick kilns going on in Nilphamari
Eight fined Tk 4.3 million

NILPHAMARI, Feb 23: Detection and taking lawful steps thereby against illegal brick kilns is going on in Nilphamari district.
In the meantime eight illegal brick kilns had been detected in Syedpur upazila in the district and those were demolished and fined.
The brick kilns which include Mrs MBC brick of Salina Hossain, Mrs UBL brick of Zobaidul Islam, Mrs NHE brick of Abdur Rahman, Mrs CN brick of Nur Amin, Mrs NZH brick of Zikrul Haque, Mrs 3 Star brick of Mozahrul Islam, Mrs AB brick of Abdul Mozid and Mrs RSB brick of Iqbal Hossain have been fined a total of Tk 4.3 million.
According to the Brick Making Control Act of 2013 the law enforcement authority of the upazila conducted the drive recently. The mobile court led by Magistrate of environment Directorate of Syedpur upazila Rezina Akhter was assisted by VDP, village police and RAB of Syedpur upazila.
Sources said the offences of the brick kiln owners include use of top soil of the farmland, not having required licence, use of wood as fuel and so on.
While contacted, DD, environment of Rangpur division Mezbaul alam said the brick owners those who are not operating lawfully and abiding by the environment protection regulation would be punished and legal action would be taken as well.
