Drive against meterless vehicles, realising excess fares on in Ctg

CHITTAGONG, July 04: Chittagong Metropolition Police (CMP), Traffic Department-drive against CNG-run autorickshaws operating without meters, is continuing in the city.

The main objective of the drive is to resist realisation of excess fares from the passengers in an illegal manner, CMP sources said.

During the last three days as many as 600 CNG-run autorickshaws have been seized from different roads of the city.

On the other hand, around 1,000 cases have been filed against the drivers and owners on different charges including meter related ones.

Following such a vigorous drive, a good number of CNG-run taxis have been detained at dumping centre of CMP Traffic Department in the city's Sadarghat area.

Some CNG-run autorickshaws are supposed to be released subject to fulfilling certain terms and conditions including realisation of fine, CMP traffic department sources said.

Despite inclement whether for the last few days CMP traffic department has been conducting the drives and special squads have been deployed for the purpose.
