Driving testing, training centres to be set up in city

The government will establish Driving Testing and Training Centre in Dhaka city to check road accident, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader told the journalists at an awareness-building campaign at Mohakhali Bus Terminal in the city today. The Minister has also asked Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) to check documents of motorbikes to bring down accidents to zero level. ‘Nowadays motorbikes have turned horrific to hasten roads accidents,’ he said. The BRTA organised the awareness building campaign in a bid to bring to zero the road accidents. The BRTA launched the programme in the city’s four major points by distributing leaflet and stickers among the common people as well as motor vehicle users. The minister said the BRTA trained 75 professional female drivers and handed over driving licenses, as they drive motor vehicles smoothly. ‘BRTA will have to check registration papers of motorbikes to minimise road accidents,’ he said. BRTA Chairman M Nurul Islam, Director Mashiur Rahman and officials concerned were present at the campaign. The minister said the BRTA trained 1,02,283 persons and organised 319 seminars and workshops to create awareness among people. The government has created 11 new posts of executive magistrate to gear up BRTA’s activities in the legal field, he added, according to BSS.
