KHULNA, Dec 9: The daylong drizzle, coupled with cold wind, made most owners of makeshift shops on footpath suffers, as they had to keep their shops shut because of it.
Day labourers, however, were the worst sufferers as they had no work for almost the whole day. Azizul Islam, a hawker who sells his wares at Picture Palace circle area of the city said, "I had to keep my shop shut and lost a full day's earnings."
Most the residents also stayed indoors in Khulna city on Thursday. The number of pedestrians and traffic was thin on the city's streets throughout the day. And the few vehicles plying the streets had their headlights on even during the day as sun remained behind the clouds.
Many residents said they could not venture out to the market to buy daily essentials. Prices of all essentials, including vegetables, went up due to the inclement weather.
Khulna Met Office said 0.4 millimeters of rainfall was recorded on the day. The highest temperature in Khulna city on Monday was 24.6 degrees Celsius, and the lowest was recorded at 20.8 degrees.
