NILPHAMARI, July 28: Drought is likely to hit the cultivation of Aman, jute and next winter crops severely.
Sources said prolonged drought that continued for nearly a month might hinder Aman paddy cultivation target in the district. This year's Aman cultivation target was fixed at 1,12,300 acres, Nilphamari DAE sources said.
Cutting of jute plants has also been hampered due to non-availability of requisite water.
Acute shortage of water for rotting jute plants would affect the quality of the fibre.
Moreover, winter crop cultivation is also likely to be delayed because of the drought-like weather.
