Drought situation prevailing in Nilphamari

Our Correspondent | Sunday, 9 August 2015

NILPHAMARI, Aug 8: A drought-like situation prevailing in Nilphamari district for over a fortnight which is hampering continuation of transplanted Aman cultivation that created anxiety among the farmers.
Transplantation of Aman seedlings would continue till the end of the Bengali month of Bhadro, 50 per cent of which is still left behind.
In the meantime most of the Aman farmland has been dried up and cracks have already developed. Some farmers are trying to use shallow and deep tube wells to provide irrigation to continue transplantation.
Weeds are also growing in the transplanted farm land which the farmers are weeding.
If the situation continues further Aman paddy production may suffer serious setback in the district.
