Thursday, 27 February 2014
A woman was slaughtered allegedly by her husband in Goainghat upazila in Sylhet district on Thursday. The victim was identified as Rasheda Begum, wife of Jamal Ahmad of Sultanpur village of the upazila. Rasheda was mother of three children. Police, quoting family members, said Jamal has been addicted to drugs for long. He often used to torture Rasheda over family affairs. On Wednesday night, he picked up a quarrel with Rasheda over the same issue and mercilessly beat her. At one stage the brute man picked up a sharp weapon and slit her throat when she fell asleep, for weakness because of the physical torture, leaving her dead on the spot. Jamal made an attempt to conceal the body. Smelling a rat, neighbours caught him after a hot chase and handed him over to police. Police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy. A case was filed, according to UNB.
