Home Minister Sahara Khatun Wednesday said Bangladesh was being used as a transit route for trafficking drugs to the international market causing an alarming rise to the number of drug addicts in the country.

"Drug addiction among the youths is increasing alarmingly across the country as Bangladesh is being used as an international transit route for drug trafficking", she told a seminar.

The Association for the Prevention of Drug Abuse (APDA) organised the seminar on 'role of educational institutions in preventing drug abuse and addiction' at the TSC auditorium of Dhaka University (DU).

The Home Minister sought cooperation from all to save the young community from the curse of drug addiction, adding that government would formulate new laws to check drug trafficking.

Regarding the tragedy of February 25-26 in the BDR Headquarters, she said the government had sought cooperation from several foreign intelligence agencies to investigate the BDR carnage.
