Saturday, 26 September 2009

FE Report
An alleged drug peddler was declared dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) when a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) brought him to the hospital soon after his arrest Friday morning.
A top official of RAB headquarters told FE that as part of its anti-narcotics drive a team from RAB-1 unit arrested the peddler Abul Kalam Azad, 40, from the city's Uttara area in the morning while he was selling drugs.
"His physical condition was not good during the drive," he said.
After the arrest, Azad was taken to the custody of the elite force where he fell sick. Then he was rushed to the DMCH where he breathed his last, the RAB official said. "That does not mean that he was tortured to dead," he added.
About reason of his death, the RAB official said nothing could be said about this matter without seeing the autopsy report.
But the family members of the deceased blamed the law enforcers for Azad's death claiming that his physical condition was perfectly all right when RAB arrested him.
Meanwhile, a drug addict Sabbir Aziz Mishu (33), a resident of Adabar area, was found dead in a house at Sher Shah Suri Road in Mohammadpur in the morning.
Family members of the victim said that Mishu used to take various types of drugs regularly and last night he went to one of his friends' house, Shayekh, where he took drugs together before dying.
"He has died from overdose of drugs," an officer of Mohammadpur police station said.
The police also detained Shayekh for interrogation. An UD (unnatural death) was filed in this connection.
