Drug peddlers attack BGB at Benapole: 1 hurt

A Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) soldier has been injured in a clash with drug peddlers at Benapole union at Sarsa Upazila in Jessore. This happened at the Benapole border check post around 8pm on Monday, BGB’s Jessore battalion commander Lt Col Motiur Rahman said. BGB personnel Saran Chandra was injured on the head. Police filed a case accusing 21 people. So far, three persons were arrested following the clash. A group of people entered Bangladesh border with illegal drugs from India. As BGB troops chased them they fled leaving a sack of Phensidyl. The smugglers tried to snatch the sack from the BGB men when they were taking it to the camp. That started the clash. At one point the smugglers hit Saran on his head. The area turned into a battleground as the clashes erupted repeatedly, locals said. Tension is running high in the border area following the incident. BGB personnel later raided a nearby village and detained three people, according to bdnews24.com.
