Drug peddling in Bhairab rampant

Narsingdi Oct 3: Rampant sale, purchase and use of drugs are going on in almost all the upazila areas of Bhairab, endangering the future of the young generation. Sources said that the drug sellers are doing brisk business, selling various kinds of contraband products like phensidyl, hemp, yaba, foreign wine, indigenous Bangla wine and fermented liquids in almost all the Bhairab upazila.
It is alleged that a section of dishonest Policemen and GRP personnel are getting monthly toll from the importers and the businessman and who in turn are running this drug business smoothly. The drug sellers import drugs from across borders and keep at secret places at rail station area and bus station.
These drugs are then transported to other parts of the country by buses and trains. Sources also informed that drugs sent by trains are unloaded at railway stations. River ghat the drugs then are sent to Narsingdi, Kishorgonj, Dhaka and Narayangonj town with the help of local users and drug peddlers.
The main hideouts of drug transactions are rail station area colony and bus station, Tin potty, LSD goodown Bhairabpur, Chandiber, Ghorakanda, Meghna, ferryghat, Kalipur, Kamalpur bus station, Kathpotty, Launchghat, Cinemahall Jannathpur bridge, Shambopur area and Boat Ghat gudaraghat. Alcohol items are also kept at drink corners and grocery shops.
Sources said that around 50 percent of rickshawpullers, Taxi cab driver, truck drivers and baby taxi drivers including young college and University going students especially the teenagers, whose guardians are expatriates are becoming drug addicts gradually. Go to the secret centers just after the college hours, purchase drugs along with meat, cigarettes and other spicy food items. They enjoy party with their other classmates and thus become habituated to the menace. Professional drug addicted people involve themselves in various anti-social activities including theft, murder and mugging.
