‘Drug trader’ dies in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

KUSHTIA, Jan 26 (UNB): A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Kanelpara in Sadar Upazila early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Habibur Rahman Hubba, 50, son of Siraj Malitha.
Monir Hossain, a sub-inspector at Kushtia Model Police Station, said a police team conducted the drive at around 03:00 pm on information that a gang of drug traders gathered in the area.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the drug traders opened fire on the police, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight that left Habibur injured.
Later, the injured was taken to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared him dead. Police recovered eight Yaba pills, one pistol, two bullet shells and two magazines from the scene.
