'Drug trader' dies in M'singh 'gunfight'

MYMENSINGH, Oct 14 (UNB): A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police in the Kalibari Bylane area of the city early Sunday.
The deceased Sharifur Rahman Sharif, 32, son of late Nazim Uddin of Krishtopur in the city, was accused in seven cases.
Being informed that a gang of drug traders gathered in the area to handle drugs, a team of police conducted drive around 1:45 am, said Shah Kamal Akand, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch of police.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the drug traders hurled brick chips towards police, prompting them to fire back, triggering the gunfight. After the gunfight, police rescued Sharif with bullet wounds. Later, the injured was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
