Drug trader injured in Satkhira \\\'gunfight\\\'

A suspected drug trader was injured in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Satkhira Sadar upazila on Monday night. Police identified the injured as Azharul Islam, 32, son of Rahim Bax, a resident of Haraddah village of the upazila. Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Emdad Sheikh said being tipped off that a gang of illegal drug traders was staying at Nabatakati village to receive a consignment of smuggled drugs, a police team conducted a drive at the village around 10:00pm. Sensing the presence of the police, the gangsters opened fire on them, prompting retaliation, triggering a gunfight. Azharul was injured in the brief gunfight, the police official claimed. Azharul was arrested from the spot while his associates managed to flee. he was admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital under police custody. One shutter gun, 1 sharp weapon, and 1 round of bullet were recovered from the spot, according to a news agency.
