The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) will organise a week-long festival to celebrate the capital's 416th anniversary and observe Dhaka Day on August 1.
DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam announced the programme at a press conference at Nagar Bhaban on Monday.
He said the festival, titled "Hridoye Dhaka" (Dhaka in Hearts), will begin on July 31.
"Dhaka began its journey as the capital of the Subah of Bengal in 1610, while the establishment of the Dhaka Municipality on August 1, 1864 marked the beginning of modern urban governance in the city," he said.
Abdus Salam said the city corporation has decided to observe August 1 as Dhaka Day in recognition of its historical significance.
The week-long celebration will feature a variety of cultural, heritage and recreational programmes.
