DSCC razes illegally built prayer site at Suhrawardy Udayan

A mobile court of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) demolished on Sunday a makeshift prayer site illegally built on government land at Suhrawardy Udayan in the capital.
Executive magistrate of the DSCC Aminul Islam led the drive at around 3:45 pm and seized construction materials including tarpaulin and bricks (stockpiled for building a permanent mosque) and religious books.
The corporation sources said that a person named Rajib Shah built the prayer site temporarily by using tarpaulin on a portion of land at Suhrawardy Udayan.
Public Relations Officer of DSCC Russel Rahman said that the DSCC team did not face any resistance from any quarters during the operation. Officials from the Department of Public Works, DSCC and Dhaka University proctor's office were present at that time. Suhrawardy Udayan is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Public Works.
The DSCC authorities provided logistic support to the public works department for the eviction.
The DSCC sources further said that Rajib Shah, a vagabond , first started cultivating crops including vegetables illegally on the piece of land ( at Suhrawardy Udayan).
Later he stopped cultivating crops and set up the prayer site at the place and started arranging namaj with an Imam.
