DSE, CSE close flat

Stocks ended flat in green Wednesday after three sessions’ correction with turnover improved slightly as most of the investors followed ‘wait-and-see’ strategy.
The market opened with a positive note, but could not sustain, eventually ended at flat. The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) --- DSEX --- ended at 4,763.71 points with a gain of 0.24 points.
The others two indices outperformed the market. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips gained 10.83 points or 0.64 per cent to close at 1,693.43 points. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 5.86 points or 0.59 per cent to close at 996.60 points.
The total turnover on DSE improved to Tk 5.72 billion, registering 16.73 per cent increase over the previous session’s turnover value of Tk 4.90 billion.
The losers took a lead over the losers as out of 294 issues traded, 170 declined, 94 advanced and 30 issues closed unchanged on the DSE floor.
The market capitalization of the DSE stood at Tk 2,898.11 billion against Tk 2,897.06 billion in the previous session.
Square Pharma continued to dominate the top turnover chart for the fifth running session with shares worth Tk 422.12 million changing hands followed by BSCCL, Meghna Petroleum, Olympic Industries and Jamuna Oil.
NCC Bank Mutual Fund-1 was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 14.13 per cent while Prime Finance First Mutual Fund was the day’s worst losers, slumping by 9.13 per cent.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended almost flat, with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX gained 5.07 points to close at 9,363.94 points.
Losers beat gainers 148 to 63, with 23 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 9.84 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of Tk 451.12 million.
