DSE, CSE decline at opening

The prices of most of the shares on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) witnessed sharp decline in early hours of trading on Wednesday, maintaining the last four session’s downward trend. DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 26.73 points or 0.58 per cent to stand at 4,528.04 points after first 30 minutes of trade at 11am. DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 9.04 points or 0.90 per cent to stand at 985.97 points. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, declined 12.63 points or 0.77 per cent to reach at 1,623.34 points. DSE turnover stood at Tk 428.70 million when the report was filed at 11am. Of the issues traded till then, 36 advanced, 116 declined and 38 remained unchanged. Emerald Oil Industries, which made debut today, was the most traded stocks with shares worth Tk 129.26 million changing hands till then followed by Square Pharma, BSC, Olympic and Lafarge Surma Cement. The port city bourse – the CSE – also witnessed negative trend with its Selective Category Index --- CSCX losing 29.08 points to stand at 8,824.21 points, also at 11am. Of the issues traded till then, 10 gained, 44 declined and 7 remained unchanged with a turnover value of Tk 50.70 million.
