Good corporate governance is a must for ensuring transparency and accountability among listed companies, said Swapan Kumar Bala, managing director of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
"If we can able to ensure the practice of good corporate governance among listed companies, the confidence of investors will be increased to the stock market," said Mr Bala, at a seminar on 'Corporate Governance' held on the DSE premises Wednesday.
"The non-listed companies will be also encouraged to get listed," said Mr Bala.
Professor Dr. Tony Van Zijil, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand was present at the seminar as resource person. He discussed about stock market and good corporate governance issues.
Executive Director of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) A T M Tariquzzaman presented his research paper 'Influence of Corporate Governance on Investors'.
To ensure good governance, transparency and enhance monitoring in listed companies, DSE in 2011 launched a new department "Corporate Governance and Financial Reporting Compliance" with a view to establishing good governance and transparency in listed companies through analyzing their financial statements and performance.
