DSE stocks mixed, turnover declines

The stock prices on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) remained mixed Sunday while the turnover declined.
The DSE General Index (DGEN) and the All Shares Price Index (DSI) increased by 11.193 points and 9.347 points to 2098.296 and 1715.830 respectively. However, the DSE-20 index, the bluechip barometer, shed 4.893 points to close at 1853.135.
Issues in the insurance and banking sectors rallied on the day.
The total turnover declined to Tk 1.490 billion Sunday from Tk 1.511 billion of Thursday, the last trading session of the previous week. But the total market capitalisation increased to Tk 464.199 billion from Tk 462.106 billion of Thursday.
Out of 197 issues traded, prices of 94 gained, 84 declined and 19 remained unchanged on the day.
The insurance sector issues rallied in the recent days on the news that the government took move to strengthen the sector.
"Investors have diversified their investment and they included the insurance sector in their choices in addition to banks and power sector," a DSE source said.
The DSE source said the insurance sector's good earnings records also attracted the investors.
However, the Prime Life Insurance shares rose by 17.44 per cent to Tk 383.75 each, Meghna Life Insurance by 13.55 per cent to Tk 486.00, National Life Insurance by 10.46 per cent to Tk 794.75, Popular Life Insurance by 11.32 per cent to Tk 1058.25, Sandhani Insurance by 14.13 per cent to Tk 496.50, Pragati Life Insurance by 12.51 per cent to Tk 528.25 and Progressive Life Insurance by 12.12 per cent to Tk 326.00.
In addition, prices of Dutch Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) shares rose by 9.43 per cent to Tk 3907.75 each, BRAC Bank by 6.04 per cent to Tk 749.75 per share, Desco by 5.59 per cent to Tk 976.00, Southeast Bank by 0.26 per cent to Tk 474.50, NBL by 2.28 per cent to Tk 794.75 and Ibn Sina by 10.87 per cent to Tk 555.75.
On the other hand, prices of Power Grid shares declined by 1.02 per cent to Tk 581.25, Summit Power by 0.49 per cent to Tk 913.00, Shahjalal Bank by 0.68 per cent to Tk 218.00, Square Pharma by 1.22 per cent to Tk 3819.00, UCBL by 2.40 per cent to Tk 2598.50 and AB Bank by 1.51 per cent to Tk 1416.00.
