DSE turnover crosses Tk 2.0b-mark again

The total turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Monday again crossed the Tk 2.0 billion-mark after a 35-day gap triggered by a decision of Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) to revert the top five issues' trading to "public market" from the "spot market".
According to a DSE online news, shares of AB Bank Ltd., Dhaka Electric Supply Co. Ltd.(DESCO), Brac Bank Ltd., Power Grid Co. of Bd. Ltd. and Summit Power Ltd. will be traded in the normal public market from tomorrow (Wednesday) as SEC withdrew its earlier decision of July 22, 2007.
The SEC had placed the trading of the top five companies under spot market to rein in the surge of the prices of the issues since July 23.
The previous highest turnover on the DSE was recorded at Tk 2.075 billion July 30, 2007.
On Monday, all the market barometers on the DSE gained for the sixth consecutive day due to strong buying support of the investors.
DSE General Index (DGEN), DSE-20 Index (DS20) and All Shares Price Index (DSI) gained 11.760 points, 8.569 points and 2.726 points to close at 2528.484, 2039.634 and 2114.605 respectively.
The total market turnover rose to Tk 2.147 billion from its previous Tk 1.804 billion. The total market capitalisation also increased to Tk 5.882 billion from Tk 587.328 billion on the previous day.
Out of 194 traded issues prices of 105 gained, 71 declined and 18 remained unchanged.
Power Grid was the turnover leader with traded shares worth Tk 255.498 million followed by BRAC Bank Tk 184.275 million, AB Bank Tk 122.746 million, NBL Tk 96.597 million, Prime Bank Tk 85.062 million, Summit Power Tk 84.202 million, Desco Tk 70.694 million, Southeast Bank Tk 67.913 million, Square Pharma Tk 66.338 million and Pubali Bank Tk 61.099 million.
Prices of Power Grid gained 2.97 per cent to Tk 631.00, Prime Bank 2.70 per cent to Tk 759.00, Desco 0.45 per cent to Tk 1147.00, Square Pharma 1.44 per cent to Tk 3502.00, Agni System 11.76 per cent to Tk 47.50, Intech 8.09 per cent to Tk 22.70, ISN Limited 19.15 per cent to Tk 25.50 and BD Com 11.16 per cent to Tk 22.90.
BRAC Bank declined 0.55 per cent to Tk 1115.75, AB Bank 1.20 per cent to Tk 2358.50, NBL 3.62 per cent to Tk 1275.50, Summit Power 6.65 per cent to Tk 1399.25, Southeast Bank 1.09 per cent to Tk 544.25 and Pubali Bank 0.70 per cent to Tk 985.75.
Prices of IT issues have increased significantly due to a news on gaining licenses by these IT companies for operating the Internet Telephony (IP), sources said.
Meanwhile, SEC has approved the proposal for changing the face value of per shares of Social Investment Bank from Tk. 1000.00 to Tk. 100.00 and market lot from 5 shares to 50 shares.
