DSE turnover crosses Tk 3b-mark

Stocks ended higher for the second running session on Wednesday with turnover crossing Tk 3.0 billion-mark after eight sessions as investors went for buying spree on lucrative scrips. The market started with a positive note and the upward trend continued till the market closure amid modest see-saw. Eventually, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) went up by 15.22 points or 0.34 per cent to close at 4,430.98 points. The other two indices also closed higher. The DS30, comprising blue chips gained 10.45 points or 0.65 per cent to close at 1,612.77 points. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also advanced 7.76 points or 0.78 per cent to close at 993.28 points. Total turnover at DSE stood at Tk 3.21 billion, registering an increase of 33.75 per cent over the previous session’s value of Tk 2.40 billion. Out of 292 issues traded, 119 advanced, 127 declined and 46 closed unchanged on the DSE floor. Lafarge Surma Cement was the top turnover leader with shares worth Tk 414.17 million changing hands followed by GP, EHL, BSRM Steels and Meghna Petroleum. Meghna Cement was the day’s highest gainer; posting a rise of 7.56 per cent while Gemini Sea Food was the day’s worst losers, slumping by 5.68 per cent. The port city bourse -- Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher with its Selective Categories Index -- CSCX-- gained 18.43 points to close at 8,496.47 points. Losers beat gainers 92 to 73, with 35 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 5.79 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of Tk 220.67 million.
