DSE turnover crosses Tk 5b-mark again

Stocks closed higher for the fifth consecutive session on Wednesday with turnover crossing Tk 5.0 billion-mark once again as investors went for buying spree on large cap stocks. The market started with a positive note and continued till the market closure. At the end of the session, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) ended at 4,694.21 points, gaining 34.22 points or 0.73 per cent. The other two indices also saw sharp rise. The DS30, comprising blue chips gained 21.19 points or 1.24 per cent to close at 1,725.26 points. The DSE Index (DSES) returned on positive track after two sessions with gaining 9.47 points or 0.92 per cent to close at 1,038.95 points. Turnover value on DSE crossed Tk 5.47 billion-mark once again and amounted to Tk 5.47 billion which was 39.89 per cent higher from previous session’s value of Tk 3.91 billion. The gainers took a marginal lead over the losers as out of 296 issues traded, 148 advanced, 122 declined and 26 issues closed unchanged on the DSE floor. GrameenPhone (GP) became the top turnover leaders with shares worth Tk 528.17 million changing hands followed by Meghna Petroleum, Olympic Industries, Lafarge Surma Cement and Heidelberg Cement. Aramit was the day’s highest gainer; posting a rise of 8.69 per cent while Familytex (BD) was the day’s worst losers, slumping by 45.65 per cent following its price adjustment after record date. The port city bourse - Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher with its Selective Categories Index --- CSCX gained 68.43 points to stand at 9,047.58 points. Gainers beat losers 100 to 92, with 24 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 9.26 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of Tk 321.06 million.
