DSE turnover crosses Tk 6b-mark

Dhaka stocks closed flat Thursday amid volatile trading throughout the session with turnover crossed Tk 6.0 billion mark after 12-session as investors took position amid optimism.
The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) --- DSEX --- ended at 4,750.26 points, losing less than one points of 0.39 from previous session. However, the other two indices outperformed the market. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips gained 5.17 points or 0.30 per cent to close at 1,693.91 points. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) went up by 9.87 points or 0.99 per cent to close at 1002.41 points. The total turnover on DSE stood at Tk 6.46 billion, registering 63.13 per cent increase over the previous session’s value of Tk 3.96 billion. The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 292 issues traded, 143 declined, 118 advanced and 31 issues closed unchanged on the DSE floor. The market capitalisation of the DSE stood at Tk 2,923.12 billion against Tk 2,907.39 billion in the previous session. Singer BD dominated the top turnover chart with shares worth Tk 372.97 million changing hands followed by Olympic, Square Pharma, Confidence Cement and Apex Footwear. Singer BD was also the day’s highest gainer; posting a rise of 13.28 per cent following its corporate declaration of 100 per cent cash and 25 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2013, while Prime Insurance was the day’s worst losers, slumping by 114.91 per cent. The port city bourse --- the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), however closed lower with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX-- lost 41.28 points to close at 9,287.42 points. Losers beat gainers 140 to 72, with 19 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 9.64 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of Tk 500.21 million.
