DSE turnover dips to 6-week low

Stocks edged lower for the second running session today (Thursday) with turnover dipped to 6-week low on the major bourse as the investors followed cautious stance. DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) went down further by 16.04 points or 0.31 per cent to close at 5,154.10 points amid volatile trading throughout the session. The other two indices also closed in the red. The DS30, comprising blue chips lost 5.32 points or 0.27 per cent to close at 1,943.67 points. The DSE Shariah Index shed 4.30 points or 0.35 per cent to close at 1,216.23 points. The total turnover on DSE came down below Tk 6.0 billion and amounted to Tk 5.72 billion, which was 20.77 per cent lower compared to previous session’s value of Tk 7.22 billion. The losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 303 issues traded, 139 declined, 118 advanced and 46 remained unchanged on the DSE floor. The total market capitalisation of the DSE came down to Tk 3,384.92 billion against Tk 3,381.13 billion in the previous session. MJL BD was the most traded stock with shares worth Tk 416.89 million changing hands followed by SPCL, IDLC Finance, KPCL and RSRM Steels. Shahjibazar Power Company was the day’s highest gainer for the second session, posting a rise of 9.94 per cent while Rahim Textile was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 12.43 per cent. The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also declined for the second day with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – lost 29.99 points to close at 9,684.63 points. Losers beat gainers 129 to 66, with 26 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 11.18 million shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of Tk 505.98 million.
