DSE turnover hits 6-month high

Turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) hit a six-month high on Sunday, as investors took strong position on large cap stocks amid optimism. The total turnover on DSE stood at Tk 7.63 billion, registering an increase of 29.76 per cent over the previous session value of Tk 5.88 billion. It was also the highest turnover since Tk 7.70 billion on February 6, this year. Along with turnover, the prime index of the DSE – DSEX -- also crossed the ‘psychological’ threshold of 4,500 points after three months and closed at 4,530.83 points, gaining 44.64 points or 0.99 per cent. The other two indices ended higher. The DS30, comprising blue chips gained 26.00 points or 1.57 per cent to close at 1,678.71 points. The DSE Shariah Index soared 20.92 points or 2.03 per cent to close at 1,047.20 points. The gainers took a lead over the losers as out of 299 issues traded, 165 advanced, 100 declined and 34 remained unchanged on the DSE floor. MJL BD was the most traded stock with shares worth Tk 678.12 million changing hands followed by Square Pharma, GP, Active Fine Chemicals and Beximco. Shahjibazar p Power was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 9.98 cent while ICB First NRB Mutual Fund was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 8.27 per cent. The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – gained 85.72 points to close at 8,578.14 points. Gainers beat losers 113 to 88, with 27 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 14.10 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of Tk 785.32 million
