DSE witnesses upward trend for second consecutive week

FE ReportbrThe Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) witnessed an upward trend for the second consecutive week that ended Thursday amid increased participation of investors.brThe market barometers - the benchmark DSE General Index and All Shares Price Index (DSI) - gained 1.36 points and 1.21 points to close at 2802.97 and 2397.75 respectively.brThe DSE-20 comprising blue chip, however, fell 0.66 per cent to finish at 2409.97.brStocks of market heavyweight Titas Gas chased by the investors throughout the week kept the prime bourse afloat in the week, according to the market operators. However, the bourse saw minor price correction during the week. brThe state-owned Titas Gas continued to dominate the trading for the fifth straight week as it accounted for about 13.82 per cent of the week's total market turnover at the prime bourse.brIn the week shares worth Tk 1.90 billion of Titas Gas was traded.brThe investors' concentration remained confined to some big scrips in the week, which was not a good sign for the market, an expert said.brHowever, the market's overall tone was positive, but there was a very uneasy truce right now between the positives and the negatives, and we'll have to see how things shape up next week, he added.brThe daily average turnover was up by 3.51 per cent to Tk 2.76 billion against the previous week's Tk 2.66 billion.brThe market capitalisation was also up by 2.60 per cent to Tk 988.46 billion against Tk 963.43 billion of the previous week.brOut of 288 issues, 117 advanced, 129 declined, five remained unchanged and five were not traded in the week.brACI Limited was the second top turnover leader with shares worth Tk 780.33 million changing hands, accounting for 5.65 per cent of the trade.brBeximco Limited, GrameenS2 Mutual Fund, Beximco Pharma, Lankabangla Finance Company Limited, Islami Bank, ICB AMCL Second NRB Mutual Fund, Square Pharma and BATBC were the other turnover leaders.brOf the top ten gainers, five were from Z-category companies.brIn the week, BD Thai Aluminum, a low-rated Z-category issue, was the top gainer posting a 41.30 per cent rise, followed by Pragati Insurance 23.89 per cent, ICB Islamic Bank Limited 22.27 per cent, Delta Brac Housing 22.16 per cent, Titas Gas 21.17 per cent, Chittagong Vegetable 19.23 per cent and Pragat Life Insurance 14.12 per cent.brMutual Trust Bank Limited, Monno Stafllers, Rahima Food, Dynamic Textile, Rupali Bank, National Polymer, Eastern Cables and Fu-Wang Ceramic were the other top losers of the week. brThe A-category issues accounted for 74.23 per cent of the total turnover in value during the week, while B-category issues shared 0.84 per cent, N-category 20.42 per cent and Z-category 4.42 per cent.br
