FE Report | Thursday, 30 January 2014

Stocks returned to the green Wednesday after two sessions' marginal correction with turnover improved slightly as investors went for buying large cap stocks amid optimism.
The market opened with a positive note and the upward trend continued till the market closure amid modest see-saw. At the end of the session, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) --- DSEX--- went up by 41.97 points or 0.89 per cent to close at 4,748.51 points.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips advanced 15.27 points or 0.93 per cent to 1,662.95 points. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also closed positive with gaining 3.66 points or 0.38 per cent to close at 975.21 points.
The total turnover stood at Tk 6.27 billion on DSE, registering 5.8 per cent increase over the previous session's turnover value of Tk 5.93 billion.
"Market inevitably gripped by the bull after taking marginal correction in index in last two trading sessions as large cap stocks rallied," said LankaBangla Securities, a leading stock broker in its daily market analysis.
Stocks reversed at the beginning of trade, but turn out to be volatile in last two days since the rally started after the formation of new government, said the stock broker.
"As more buyers came in late hours, buy pressure outstripped the sell pressure and closed the index in green pushing up benchmark index (DSEX) by 42 points," said the stock broker.
"After two days of getting derailed from its usual track, market once again found its balance to head on to its targeted direction. Much of the upward pressure is now coming from reduced political turmoil, and increased participation from investors," said Zenith Investments.
"Since the recent political crisis has adversely affected the fundamentals of many businesses, companies are now on the verge of covering their losses with improved performance which will ultimately make the stock market healthier in the future," observed the Zenith analysis.
