DSEX reaches all-time high

The stock market edged higher for the fifth running sessions Monday with turnover improved further as easing of political turmoil jacked investors’ confidence up. The market started in a positive trend in the morning and the key index of the prime bourse gained 20 points within first 15 minutes. But rest of the session it witnessed modest see-saw, eventually ended session marginally higher. At the end of the session, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) - DSEX went up by 17.01 points or 0.38 per cent to close the session at 4,454.83 points.
It is the highest level of DSEX since its inception on January 27, 2013 on the DSE. The DSEX started its base point - 4,055.90 - on January 27, 2013. However, the DS30 index, comprising blue chips lost 5.67 points or 0.36 per cent to close at 1,571.09 points. Turnover value on the DSE improved further to Tk 6.50 billion, registering 5.0 per cent increase over the previous session value of Tk 6.19 billion. Gainers beat losers 159 to 103, with 29 issues closed unchanged on the DSE floor. Activities increased in the prime bourse. A total of 0.145million trades were executed with 144.50 million shares and mutual fund units were trading volume. The market capitalization of the DSE stood at Tk 2,740.62 billion against Tk 2,734.15 billion in the previous session. Bengal Windsor Thermoplastics dominated the top turnover chart with shares worth Tk 283.72 million changing hands followed by Appollo Ispat, Golden Son, Orion Pharma and Olympic Industries. Renwick Jajneswar & Co (Bd) was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 9.94 per cent rise while Samata Leather Complex was the day’s worst losers, slumping by 7.69 per cent. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher, with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX-- gained 46.03 points to close at 8,778.27 points. Gainers beat losers 117 to 89, with 24 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 16.30 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of Tk 617.73 million.
