DU admission: HC turns down plea for 2nd chance

Wednesday, 8 July 2015

The High Court has rejected the writ petition against the decision of the Dhaka University (DU) authorities not to allow students to sit for the university’s admission test for the second time. An HC bench comprising justices Farah Mahbub and Kazi M Ejarul Haque Akanda passed the order on Wednesday. As per the order, the students who have passed HSC examinations will not get the second chance to appear at the DU entry tests, Advocate ASM Mejbah Uddin, lawyer of the DU, said. On October14, 2014, the DU authorities decided to allow only fresh successful HSC examinees to appear at its admission tests in a single year from the 2015-2016 academic session, aiming to create an equal opportunity for all the aspirants. A total of 16 guardians filed the writ petition with the HC earlier in the day challenging the legality of the decision. On March 16, the HC issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why the decision not to allow students to sit for the DU admission test for the second time would not be declared illegal, according to a news agency.
