DU admission test debacle and declining standard of education

Thursday, 2 October 2014

The admission test results of Dhaka University have bared the miserable state of our education system. We must start soul searching to seek answers for this depressing degradation.   Education is the backbone of a nation and we can not dream of achieving poverty-free Bangladesh without it. Mere certificate-oriented education will not bring the desired change; we must ensure quality in our education system.  A galore of GPA-5 is not a proof of good and quality education. We must improve the standard of education country-wide.
Recently in Dhaka University admission test, only 20 per cent admission seekers were able to pass. The tendency to see the answer paper "liberally" by the teachers are not helping our education rather it is creating confusion and discouraging students to work hard and gain real knowledge.
We are living in the twenty-first century and we must make our society a knowledge-based one. If we overlook this important issue of declining education standard, we will remain far behind the rest of the world. We hope the government will talk with eminent educationalists and find a way to save our education system from going awry.
