Shehreen Amin Bhuiyan Monami, an assistant proctor of Dhaka University (DU), has filed a case against four people, accusing them of editing and publishing her photos in an obscene and defamatory way on social media.
She lodged the complaint under the Cyber Security Act at Shahbag Police Station on Monday. The accused persons were journalist Muztaba Khondakar, writer Mohiuddin Mohammad, and Dhaka College student Nirab Hossain and Ashfaq Hossain Evan.
According to the case statement, Muztaba Khondakar allegedly edited and posted Monami's photo on Facebook with the caption, "This is a Dhaka University professor, wearing a bikini in the name of freedom of dress."
Another accused, writer Mohiuddin Mohammad, shared a photo card describing the teacher as a source of "sexual fantasy", and made indecent, obscene, and defamatory remarks.
The third accused, Nirab Hossain, reportedly made vulgar comments about the teacher on a Facebook post - shared by a news portal Daily Campus. The fourth accused, Ashfaq Hossain Evan, also posted an edited, obscene version of Monami's photo on his Facebook profile.
The complaint added that these edited images were widely circulated online, causing harassment and humiliation for the teacher. Screenshots of the accused persons' Facebook IDs and posts were attached.
In her statement, Monami said, "My photos have been repeatedly edited and shared in an indecent way, along with offensive and defamatory comments. This has left me mentally devastated."
She requested police to take appropriate legal action under the Cyber Security Act against those involved.
Confirming the matter, Shahbag Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Mansur said, "Shehreen Amin Monami has filed a case alleging cyber-bullying through edited photos. We are following the necessary legal procedures and will take action accordingly."
