DU celebrates Dhaka's 400 yrs

Dhaka University (DU) celebrated the 'completion of 400 years of Dhaka' amid much fanfare and festivity Sunday.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor SMA Faiz inaugurated the daylong ceremony by releasing four pigeons and flying 400 balloons at Mall Chattar on the campus in the morning.
The entire DU campus was tastefully decorated to observe the occasion. Students carrying placards, banners, festoons and wearing masks brought out colourful processions from different halls and converged in the function place.
The daylong programme included a series of events including debate competition in dialect, kite flying festival, painting, photography exhibition and a cultural soiree.
A discussion on 'history and culture of Dhaka city's 400 years and Dhaka's language' was held on the occasion. DU History Department organized the discussion.
Several stalls were also set up on the campus showcasing Dhaka's heritage and paintings.
Former DU VC Professor Moniruzzaman Mia, DU Pro-VC Professor AFM Yusuf Haider, Treasurer Professor Syed Abul Kalam Azad, Arts Faculty Dean Dr Sadrul Amin, Social Sciences Faculty Dean Dr Harun-ur-Rashid, DU teachers Professor Aminul Islam and Professor Serajul Islam Chowdhury, among others, addressed the inaugural function.
DU organised the daylong programme with assistance of DU Alumni Association (DUAA).
