Dhaka University (DU) Day will be celebrated on the campus today (Monday) with great enthusiasm and festivity, marking the 98th founding anniversary of the country's highest echelon of education.
Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman conveyed greetings and congratulations to all on this occasion at a press conference held on Sunday at Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom on the campus.
DU Pro-VC Prof Dr Muhammad Samad, Treasurer Dr Md Kamal Uddin, Senate and Syndicate members were also present at the press conference.
VC Akhtaruzzaman said, "This year DU Day will be celebrated as the arrival message of 'Mujibyear-2020' and 'University's Century Festival-2021'. Marking this two important benchmarks in order to ensure the quality of education, a realistic and science based schedule will be adopted."
He added that a committee led by an emeritus professor will be formed to achieve excellence in education and research.
A new line of action will be formulated based on suggestions and recommendations of this committee.
He hoped that this committee will play an important role in consolidating the position of DU in the world ranking.
DU VC will inaugurate the daylong programme at 10am.
The university authorities will bring out a procession and hold discussions, cultural sessions, sports and debate competitions to mark the day.
Processions will be brought out from the residential halls of the university at 10am while the national flag, DU flag and flags of different halls will be hosted at 10:15am.
Later, teachers and students will gather at the Mall Chattar near the Administrative Building and proceed towards the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) in a procession.
